We have had a wonderful, busy week which has included time with my parents, and time with Eric's parents and sister. It has been such a great Christmas. The other day we went to Portrait Innovations and took some pictures. They turned out really well so I thought I would share a few! Later I will post some pictures from Christmas with the families. I hope that everyone had a great holiday.

On another note, I just have to share how much the Lord has blessed us recently.  It has been amazing and we are so thankful to the Lord and to so many friends and family who have loved us in amazing ways.  Thank you so much.

I hope and pray that our girls always love and care for each other.

There are more and more smiles around the Wood household lately. First of all, Elsie is smiling more and more with each passing day. She is engaging and loves to smile when we engage with her. Second, Jenna is smiling more. I think that she is past those first tough weeks of adjustment and is really falling into the big sister role. She is showing more and more independence and growing in many ways. Third, Eric and I are smiling more because we are getting some great sleep. Elsie is a pretty good sleeper at night time right now, which means that we are too! And here are pictures of our smiling girls.

Elsie update and two month check-up

We went to see the doctor yesterday and all looks great. Seems as though the weekend scare was a simple virus. The reason they kept us at the hospital for so long is because they are required to figure out what is causing the fever in a baby under 60 days old. They have linked unidentified fevers to SIDS and don't take fevers lightly. And since Elsie didn't have any signs of a virus for the first day and a half, they had to run tests to figure things out. Finally on Saturday she got a viral rash, which was great news. That gave them a reason for the fever. They kept us that last day just waiting for all the test results to come back. Anyways, all is good and she is healthy. Very healthy in fact! She was in the 90th percentile for weight (12 lbs 8 oz) and in the 75th for height (23 "). Her head is in the 50 percentile. So, all is great. She is a chub, and a cutie pie.

We're home

Thanks for all your prayers and support.  We are home, and Elsie is doing great.  She has been without a fever for about 24 hours, and all the tests came back just fine.  It was scary, and I am glad that it is over.

Pray for Elsie

Everything seems to be fine, but please pray for Elsie. Late Thursday night she came down with a fever of 102 so we took her to the ER. After hours of testing they took us in an ambulance to Emanuel and continued testing and observation. So far all the tests have come back with good results and her fever has been under 100 for a whole day. They are keeping her at the hospital until at least tomorrow (Sunday) morning and then we hope to go home with a baby on her way to full recovery. It has been a really rough few days, but God is good and we continue to trust His plan for His baby girl. Pray for Eric and Jenna too. Thanks, I love you all.

On the tummy

Look at me, I'm SO strong!
Okay, this is harder than I thought...
Um, okay, I think I'm done with tummy time...
Seriously mom, pick me up before I face plant into the carpet...

Six weeks already!

Our tiny sleepy baby is getting big and starting to wake up more and more. She is smiling a little, and checking out the world around her. Check out the pictures... we seem to have a red-head on our hands! Who would have thought that two blond haired parents could have a brunette and a a red-head. Elsie is a wonderful baby, and we couldn't imagine our lives without her. We thank the Lord for this amazing blessing!

Look how much Elsie looks like Eric as a baby! This picture doesn't do it justice, they seriously look a lot alike!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Eric gave me an INCREDIBLE birthday present...a date night to Red Robin and then to the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall to see my very favorite comedian Brian Regan! Watch this clip and you will see how very funny this man is. We were laughing SO hard all evening, it was perfect. A special thanks to my sister who took care of both our girls (and Jenna even spent the night!) so that we could have a wonderful evening.   Thank you Eric for such a perfect (early) birthday surprise!  Now without further adu, watch and enjoy this funny funny clip...

Decorating for Christmas!

We had a lot of fun decorating this weekend!  Eric put the lights up on the house, we got our tree, and we decorated the family room.  Christmas decor makes the house feel so warm and smell so good.  I love Christmas!  It has been fun explaining Christmas to Jenna this year.  She understands so much more, and is excited for all the things we are doing to make Jesus' birthday special!

Here she is dancing on the fireplace.  Looks like she is doing the maccerena!

indoor soccer

A wood floor, slippery socks, and a wild game of soccer...bad combo.

Jenna and I were racing around last night playing a fun game of soccer.  Well we rounded the kitchen table and I tried to stop, but unfortunately my socks had other plans.  I slipped on the floor, rammed my toe into the chair and fell on my back, knocking Jenna over in the process.  Oh, and then the kitchen chair that I fell over, and landed right on the bridge of my nose.  Ouch.  Seriously, I was checking to see if I broke it.  Jenna started to cry and I, nearly in tears myself, asked if she was okay.  She pointed to her finger and said it hurt but that she was fine.  She asked if I was okay too.  Thankfully we are all fine, and I just have a minor bruise on my nose and some swelling.  Jenna's finger doesn't even have a mark.  It was funny to see her point to a little tiny spot on her finger whilst my nose was swelling by the second.  Moral of the story... take off the socks.

I gave Jenna a little haircut yesterday.
It is now out of her face!  Hooray!

Cinderellee, Cinderellee

Wearing her Cinderella dress while sweeping the floor...I promise I didn't set this picture up.  She wanted to wear her dress, and then she wanted to help me sweep while I was cleaning behind the fridge.

And Elsie says, "Yeah sister!"

Funny faces of a newborn

Just before drifting off to a peaceful sleep, Elsie made these faces...

The wink...

The tongue...

The yawn...

The smile...

Her face says it all...

I promise Jenna, someday Elsie will be more fun to hang out with.

We're moving to Illinois.

Not really. But it is tempting since I hear they don't do this silly "daylight savings" thing. Our sleep deprived family is now getting even less sleep since our 2-year-old didn't get the memo about GAINING an hour of sleep. The little girl who wakes at 6:32am every morning whether we put her to bed at 7pm or at 8:30pm is now waking at 5:32am, thanks to daylight savings. Shortly after I have her back in bed (not asleep but at least not keeping us up), our newborn cries for her early morning feeding. Argh. Parenting is hard enough, and trying to parent on no sleep is nearly impossible. All I can do is rely on the strength and patience given by the Lord to get me through these hard days. From the very start we are taught as parents that we need the Lord each moment of each day.

So, I can make it through. I can be patient when my toddler sings Barney's "I love you, you love me..." during our entire 40 minute shopping trip. I can check my anger when she decides that nap time is optional and fights going down for almost an hour. It's funny... I have been teaching Jenna a song called "patience" for the past month or so. More often than not I am the one who really needs to hear it. Does anyone remember this song? It goes like this...

Have patience, have patience
Don't be in such a hurry
When you get impatient,
you only start to worry.
Remember, remember
that God is patient too.
Just think of all the times when others
have to wait for you.

The day is looking up. Jenna has now been napping for over 2 hours, and Elsie is sleeping well also. It is amazing how distorted my view of life can become with a major lack of sleep. It is no excuse. This is when character shows through the most. And I am obviously in need of some character building. Thank you Lord for life's challenges.

Stats and updates...kinda boring unless you like this kinda stuff.

Elsie had her 2 week appointment today. She is 8 lbs 3 oz (50th percentile) and measures in at 21 1/2 inches (80th percentile). Everything looks great. She is sleeping a lot still. In fact Jenna pouted the other day about how much Elsie sleeps. She said, "It makes me sad when she sleeps so much." If only she knew the alternative! Elsie wakes a few times a night, giving me a decent amount of sleep, sometimes even a 5 hour stretch, but mostly just three hours at a time. She is taking a bottle of formula once a day and seeming to enjoy it. She doesn't sleep as well after the formula, but that could have to do with the time of day or something else. I am not sure. I'm just thankful she will take a bottle.

Jenna is great. The newness of baby sister still hasn't worn off, and hopefully it never will. She loves to help, but also understands that she has to play by herself more often. I try to give her good amounts of playtime when Elsie is sleeping which seems to help her a lot. She has also started sleeping through the night more often. Before Elsie was born, Jenna was waking a few times a night to go potty. Now she just wakes with a full pull-up, which is just fine with me!

Eric and I are tired but doing good. Eric is working early mornings at one job and late nights at the other which makes for some tired days. But he is doing great at both jobs and working hard at all he does. I seem to have run out of that new-baby-adrenaline already. I thought it lasted longer, at least I know it did with Jenna. Sure we're tired, but we're suppose to be tired at this point. The days are fun, the nights aren't so bad, and the blessing of two little girls makes it all worth it.

Thanks to all our friends and family who have been helping by bringing us meals and calling to check in on us. We are loving these two little girls and our growing family.

Jenna LOVED everything about Halloween. She loved her costume, she loved running around the neighborhood, she loved knocking on doors and saying, "trick-or-treating" and she loved the candy. We have a great neighborhood for trick-or-treating. So good that I ran out of candy at 7:30pm and had to turn my lights off! Sad. Next year I will have to be better prepared.

At home

Things are going well here at home. Eric is back to work but enjoying evenings with his girls. He is outnumbered...and loving it. Eric's mom is in town which has been wonderful. She has been holding Elsie and playing with Jenna, cooking dinner, and doing other random household projects. She has been such a help. I even got to go to Target all by myself this afternoon! Here are some pictures from the last couple days...

Sleeping on her side, all bundled up. Thanks Heidi and Shelley for the swaddling blankets. They are amazing!

Here's Elsie after bathtime. Her hair was starting to look so dark, but then we bathed her and it turned blond again :)

Jenna loves to hold Elsie. Today she decided that it was a good idea to poke her eye. I stopped her before any damage was done. Her explaination to me was, "I was just tryin' to poke her eye."

Today Jenna and Mimi made cupcakes together! Then Mimi taught her how to do the dishes!!!! I don't know why I hadn't thought of that before!

One last picture. Jenna took Elsie's hand and said, "We're best friends."
