Spunky Elsie

Meet Elsie, at 21 months old...

She comes over to me any time I am sitting down and tries to lift me up while saying, "up, up, up, up, up" while her voice gets higher and higher with each "up".

She calls baby Drake (cousin), "buddy" and is constantly concerned for him. She finds wherever he is sleeping and goes into the room and talks to him. We hear her in the monitor and race to the room to rescue poor tired Drake. Usually she is saying "bye baby, night buddy" over and over again and he is giggling. He really likes Elsie when he has the protection of his crib. Without the crib, he gets a little nervous at her up close and personal squeals of delight in his face.

Juice = "doof"

She named her stuffed dog, "Annie" but it sounds more like "Aunnie". Actually, she calls all dogs Annie, and any other animal is a "moo".

Milk = mauwp

She often asks, "where'd Nenna Doh?" (where did jenna go?) followed by "oh, why?"

Her favorite words, "why" and "uh huh" but mostly, "no".

Silly thing: When she tries to show off, she squishes her face back toward her neck and makes these funny shifty eyes, spins around in a circle and falls on the ground, and then rolls around a few times. It is so funny.

Also, any time Jenna does something cool, Elsie tries to mimic her. Jenna will say, "watch this mom" and climb up and jump off any given thing. Elsie will immediately say, "ach dis mom, ach dis" and try to do what Jenna just did. They go back and forth, showing me all their cool tricks. It is hilarious to watch them perform.

Not so fun: Elsie won't sit in the shopping cart (well, she will if I strap her down and let her scream the whole time, but that is actually a very unpleasant shopping experience for EVERYONE within a 2 mile radius.) She doesn't share very well. She pushes and hits other kids (ahhh!!!). She knows how to push Jenna's buttons, and Weston's too (cousin). We're working on all these things. Some she will out grow, and some will require some serious training :)

More fun things...

She can count, if counting means "one, two, three, two, two, two."

She LOVES all animals. Sometimes it looks like she is going to explode with delight when she is near a cat or a dog.

Elsie tries to out-sing Jenna, which is a challenge in both number of big words, volume, and duration. Jenna is a singer, and Elsie is following in her footsteps. Elsie sings her words as loud as she can any time Jenna is trying to sing.

That's sweet, spunky, 21 month old Elsie Mae.

Daddy Daughter Day

Eric took Jenna to Sand in the city on Saturday, and they had a fantastic time together. I packed them a lunch, and off they went! Here they are all packed up for the day...
Riding MAX into Portland ("going backwards on the way there!")
Playing in the sand
Hungry Hungry Hippos!
Posed shot for Eric's friends - a ridiculous inside joke
They had a great day together, and Elsie and I had a good morning on our own. I got to clean the house and focus on Elsie. She is doing well potty training. The end of diapers may be near!

Keeping Elmo dry

We are working on potty-training Elsie right now, and it has been really really difficult. I decided to start potty-training becuase of three things... 1. She takes off her pants and diaper all day long and 2. She says potty, I check and her diaper is dry, and then she says potty again and it is wet, and 3. This is about when I potty-trained Jenna, and she was easy.

Well, it has been ROUGH! I am not sure this first round of potty-training will work, but I am also not sure she will go back to diapers. Depending upon how today goes we will see what happens. This is the beginning of day three, I am tired.

(Here she is hiding in the corner, not keeping her Elmo undies dry)
**edit**
I have to add that every time she has to go she yells, "POTTY!" and takes off running. And on her way she picks up at least two toys or grabs her pb&j sandwich - it's hilarious. Today she yelled POTTY and then grabbed her purse, put it on her shoulder, and booked it to the bathroom. Funny girl. And today is actually going a lot better than yesterday and the day before, so we are a little encouraged.

More mud...

You know, the girls, yes my girls, well, they argue a little. More than a little. They struggle to get along right now. It partly has to do with a phase Elsie is in (approaching the age of 2), and partly it is their two personalities and how different they are, and mostly it is that they are both sinners :)

All that to say, playing in the mud is something that they do together well, with little to no arguments, with tons of team work, and tons of giggles. I will do extra laundry for months if it helps to bond my two girls.

Happenings...

Summer has been going so well. I love love love love summer time, so much. Here's what we have been up to the past couple days...

Silly Elsie in her choice of dress up

The only time these two (Weston and Elsie) have ever gotten along...
(I am babysitting the boys a lot this month. I was a little nervous about these two because they constantly, constantly push each other's buttons. But now I know to just give them ice cream and let them sit in these little chairs. Perfect)

Davis turns EIGHT on the 11th, we had an early bday party for him...
Bestest cousin friends...

Family fun times

The other day we headed to Blue Lake for some splashing fun and dinner in the park. We had a great time, even though the splash park was mostly closed. They are repairing something but had a sprinkler set up instead of all the fun splashy things. The girls also played at a few of the parks. Love the family time!

Playing and climbing

Ready to slide

Ready to get wet! I'm totally bummed this picture is blurry. Just look at that crazy hair-do!

Getting wet is hilarious!
So fun
and so silly
Playing with Eric's new train set...I mean the girl's new train set.
(awesome garage sale find!)
And lastly, here is a picture of Elsie when her hair isn't all crazy.
She looks like a different kid :)
