Happy Halloween

Halloween is happening all week here at our house. Jenna started out as a ballerina, then decided to be Minnie Mouse, then Snow White, then a Ballerina Princess, and now Princess Aurora. We will see what she decides for tonight :) This afternoon we dressed up in costumes to visit Grandpa and Grandma at work, and then Daddy at work. Also, we dressed up Elsie in a princess dress to get some cute pictures.

So, here are the little princesses. Also, here's Eric all ready for work this morning!

And for even more fun this evening, I am attempting to make pumpkin soup for dinner (with rolls and salad), and then roast some pumpkin seeds for an after trick-or-treating snack. Should be a fun family night!

Monday Night Football

Four years ago we started watching Monday Night Football at the Alcorns. It's been such a fun part of the fall season for our family! Anyways, it has become a tradition to have the kids dress up in their costumes the Monday closest to Halloween.

So this is the first year. It started with five kids (Matthew Franklin not pictured)
2005 - Jake, Keri, Ashlynn, and Jenna

2006 - We added Joel and Ty (and Matthew, Ashlynn, and Lorelai are missing)

2007 - We didn't make it in 2007 because of our newborn Elsie

2008 - Holy moly, look at all the kids!!
Top - Ty, Lorelai, Elsie, Jake, Matthew, Jack
Bottom - Joel, Jenna, Aubrey, Keri, Ashlynn

Wow. As you can imagine, Monday nights are calm evenings full of watching the entire football game and enjoying uninterrupted conversation with good friends.
(Or maybe it is full of kids running and yelling, and adults sort of watching most of the game and having interrupted conversations...with great friends :)

Guess who!

Can anybody guess who my hubby is dressing up like for Halloween?!  Stop by Starbucks (181st & Glisan) on Friday between 10:15 and 5:45pm to have your pumpkin spice latte served to you by the one and only - Bob the Builder!

Is that awesome or what!

The Party

Elsie's party was really fun.  We had lots of family - Elsie's...
 2 aunts, 1 uncle, one aunt's boyfriend, 2 grandmas, 1 grandpa,
1 mom, 1 dad, 1 sister, 3 cousins, 1 great aunt, 1 great uncle, 1 first cousin once removed,
and 1 first cousin once removed's girlfriend :)  For this party, the adults way outnumbered the kids, and the birthday girl took a nap mid party :)  It was casual and a very nice time.

Here's Elsie discovering her cake...

And here she is, the day after, playing with some new toys!
Thanks everyone for the wonderful gifts, and for the birthday wishes!

Happy Birthday Elsie

Precious Elsie, I can't believe that you are one today!  My heart is so full of love for you precious baby.  I pray for you, laugh with you, hug and snuggle you even if you won't snuggle me back - I always will.  Your favorite games are peek-a-boo, ball, chase, and tackle.  You are chatty, you have determination and persistence, and you laugh a lot especially when you are tired.  You can say, "mama, dada, and wow" and also lots of non-words (that sound like full sentences).  When you are hungry you smack your mouth together.  When you are full you spit your food out of your mouth and throw it on the ground (and if prompted you do the sign for 'all done').  When you are tired you snuggle with any stuffed animal or pillow you can find.  To say good night, you pucker up and give long distance kisses.  You stand up on everything, but won't let us help you learn to walk.  You fall off of things, and out of things, and into things.  You are easily entertained, love to play by yourself, and also seem to enjoy other kids.  We love you Elsie, we love you so very much.

Here's a picture review of Elsie's first year...

Happy Birthday Elsie!!

One year of sisters

I am getting a little nostalgic.  Elsie turns one on Sunday.  One.  I was going through pictures for her birthday post and I just couldn't pass these ones up.  They are some of my favorite 'sister' pictures from this last year.  It's fun to remember this stuff, so bare with me!
  Warning, lots of pictures.

First time meeting

When will she play with me?

Sweet moments

Matching pajamas

This was after Elsie's visit to the ER and extended stay at Emmanuel

Such a helper, and so much happier when I asked her to help

Silly

A little mischievous with the sis.  Meanwhile Elsie is thinking,
"I'll teach you what mischievous really is as soon as I can crawl..."

Doesn't Jenna look protective (or possessive, whatever)

Just chillin in the sleeping bag, chatting on the cell

Enjoying a little tea party together
Okay, that's all for now.  That was fun for me, hope it was fun for someone else out there.  I imagine the grandparents enjoyed it at least :)  Stay tuned for a birthday post coming on Sunday!

Children's Museum

Thanks to the Gresham Library, we were able to go to the Children's Museum yesterday for free!  (Well, not really for free, we pay our taxes so we paid a LOT of money to go to the museum :)

Here's Jenna on the way there

And Elsie, you can really see her new teeth here

Jenna on stage, with a bit of stage fright was going on

Elsie was watching sister on the moniter

Jenna giving Bob the Builder a high five
(there was a special exhibit dedicated to Bob and his crew.)

Jenna focused on the tool puzzle

The girls playing on Scoop, or Rollie, or Loftie, or whoever.  I don't have boys.

BIG smiles!

Ooooooo!

Ahhhhhh!
It was a fun day!  Gotta put our names back on the library waiting list now so that we can go again is 8 months!

The girls and an organizing tip

Things around here have been fun lately.  The kids are at really fun stages/ages.  We are enjoying the routine that fall has to offer, and enjoying what seems like more time with Eric home.

Jenna is becoming more and more interested in art projects - stickers, coloring, painting, writing, cutting, gluing, glittering... they all can keep her very well entertained on these rainy days.

Here we are doing a fun craft.  Jenna wanted to paint on plates.  Great idea!  We have a huge stack of those paper plates that fall apart if you try to put any food on them, but are the perfect thickness when used as an art canvas!  Plus the ridges and circle shape make it interesting and fun!!  I highly recommend paper plate art.
Here's Jenna posing for a picture in a pretty little dress.  She still asks to wear a dress every day.  But now she wants to wear a FANCY dress when possible.  Fancy dresses are any that have ruffles, lace, tulle - we received several fancy dresses from Eric's aunt who has daughters a few years older than Jenna.  She loves being fancy.
We had a couple friends over this morning.  It is Heidi's birthday today so you can wish her a happy birthday here!!  Anyways, the girls had a lot of fun dressing up like princesses and drinking tea.  And of course making a big mess.  Jenna told me, "mom, there isn't a little mess in my room."  She was right :)  They have so much fun together.
And then sweet Elsie, so curious, so adventurous, so determined to explore.  She had a blast unraveling the toilet paper, and when I went to take a picture, she dipped her hand in the toilet, of course.  I'm glad I have the picture though because it really represents her personality at this stage of life.
This is what she likes to do when I cook.  Completely empty the drawers.  I let her have her way with two drawers - towels and tupperware.  She loves it.  She stands there and throws everything out of the drawers.  She doesn't stop until the drawer is empty.  Determined, and a finisher.
Here you can kind of see her top teeth.

And lastly, on Choose To Bloom, Faith asked us all to share our own decorating and organizing tips.  Here is one way my house is semi-organized.  I have two craft plastic drawer things (you can see in the picture below).  One is for Jenna's memory stuff, and one is for Elsie's memory stuff.  Every time I have a picture, or art project, weight/height paperwork from the doctor, funny things they say that I wrote down on a piece of paper, or anything special that I want to someday put in their baby books, I put it in the drawers.  That way when I actually get around to Elsie's baby book, and Jenna's 1-4 year old book, I have it all in one place semi organized.  It isn't too fantastic, but I like it :)
