A good solicitor

A man came to our door yesterday and we actually bought what he was selling!  We never buy from solicitors, but he was a good one :)  He volunteers with Missing Children Poster Partners which basically helps produce and distribute posters when a child goes missing.  Anyways, they are selling these 'free stuff booklets' for $20.  Not only is it a great cause, but you also quickly make your money back (there are free oil changes, free pizza, free 30 day gym trial, free tans, free swimming at MHCC, free movies, etc!).  If you want to buy one go to www.posterpartners.com or call 603-492-9496.

Teddy Bear Parade

The Teddy Bear Parade this morning was very fun.

It was a bit chilly.  Do you like Jenna's outfit!?
Elsie loved to watch when dogs or horses passed by.  She also loved the bands.
Jenna loved to watch the different dance teams and would dance right along.
The kids had a great time!
Before the parade started a woman walked by with her beautiful and very sweet retriever.  She noticed that Elise was interested in the dog and brought her over.  It was the cutest thing ever!  I had a close hold on Elsie just in case this dog didn't like being poked in the eye.  But she liked it and licked Elsie on the nose, and Elsie snuggled right up with her.  It was really cute.  Eric and I were ready to buy a dog right then.

Reunion rundown

The reunion was so much fun.  I loved chatting with old friends and remembering old times.  I am so glad that I went.

I dropped the kids off at my parents house and then Eric and I went out to a nice dinner together (it's been far too long since our last date).  We had yummy food and excellent conversation.  Then we headed to the reunion arriving 'fashionably late' at 9:30pm (just saving some money really).

Our old yearbooks were on display which was really fun.  I hadn't looked through those in about 10 years :)  They also had the last issue of the Bruin Banner newspaper from our senior year on each table.  That was so funny to read through.  The music was really loud so I felt like I was shouting all night long (because I was) but it was still great to catch up.  Hard to believe that I won't see many of those friends for 10 more years!

Goodbye class of 1998, see you in 10 more years!
(Sorry no pictures, I forgot my camera.  Sad!)

10 Year Reunion!

Tonight is SBHS class of 1998's 10 year reunion!  Crazy huh!  I am really excited to catch up with old friends.  It's hard to believe that it has been 10 years, but then again so much has happened since then!  I would post some pictures, but most of my photos/yearbooks/dance pictures were all ruined in a flood at my parents house the year after I graduated.  Sad huh!

High school was so fun.  I was blessed with good friend, nice teachers, awesome teammates, and so many great memories.  And I feel really blessed to still be close to many of my classmates.  I really hope to enjoy laughing, hugging, and reminiscing with with good friends like - my old tennis district champ partner Angela Knopf!  Also some friends that I even went to grade school with and even some that I went to school with since Kindergarden!  Crazy.  It will be great to catch up.

I am a little nervous that I won't recognize some people (but that's when hubby steps in to the rescue, introducing himself and asking their name).  I hope that the old insecurities don't come back, but that I can enjoy all these great people that I shared my high school memories with!

See you all tonight (we'll be a little late so stick around past 9pm okay!)

Heaven

Talking about Heaven, Jenna said,

"It will be a really big home, with really big toys.  So many toys.  They will be SO big, and I won't be able to carry them, but God can.  And there will be big big big windows in heaven.  That's what I know about heaven."

Hair

I think that our long run of messy, often un-brushed hair is coming to an end.  The following things have changed.
1.  We started using big kid shampoo and conditioner, making it much easier to brush each day. It's nice to not need the no tear stuff.
2.  I found this website and was inspired by it.
3.  Jenna likes having her hair done!

So here begins the fun hairstyles.  More to come, this mommy-daughter stuff is fun :)

Yesterday's News

Okay girls...

"Alright girls, you both look so nice,
we are going to take a quick picture before church.
Can you both sit right there..."

"Elsie sit still, Jenna look at me and not at Elsie..."
"Elsie, come back here!"

"Elsie, don't eat the lens cap"
Never mind.  Maybe next week we will get a good one :)

Don't wanna forget

Several little things that I don't want to forget, and so I blog :)

1.  I found Elsie in the bathroom, standing at the toilet, playing in the water the other day.  Yes, it was flushed.  Yes, that is still disgusting.
2.  Jenna was dragging Elsie down the hall by the foot of her footy pjs.  Jenna was upset and Elsie was too.  Jenna said to me, "She won't stay in my room and play with me!!"
3.  Elsie is stealth.  She emptied my purse, dumping all my coupons and receipts on the floor without me knowing (she was right behind me, I was sitting at the kitchen table) and then crawled around to the other side of the table and was eating and dumping house plant dirt all over the kitchen floor.  She is silent!  I stood up to get more water and found two huge messes and a baby with a dirt filled mouth!
4.  This one is a little embarrassing.  Jenna and I were driving in the car, talking about how wonderful our day was and how much we love to spend time together.  We were having such a sweet conversation.  Anyways, she said to me, "mom, I just smile whenever I talk."  I say, "Really, why" (expecting her to say, 'because I love our family so much' or 'because Jesus loves me' or something along those lines).  But her response to my why was, "Because I am just so beautiful, and princesses always smile."  Oh dear.

**EDIT**
There are also lots of sweet moments.  Just a few moments ago Jenna looked over at me and said, "Elsie is my bestest friend in the whole world, and I am her bestest sister."

Preschool

Today, I started some causal Pre-school with Jenna.  It was so much fun, though about six minutes into it she said, "okay, now I'll be the teacher."

We did some basic stuff - letters, reading, computer time.  Nothing to spectacular, but it went so well.  Adding this structured time during Elsie's nap is great.  In fact, we structured the whole day, which is something I have been meaning to do for a LONG time.  It just took a horrible day yesterday to really motivate me to start.

Here's the structure of our morning and afternoon:
1. Play
2. Chores - clean together
3. TV - one show (I shower or do devotions, Elsie starts her nap)
4. School time (Elsie still sleeping)
5. Snack
7. Play outside
8. Lunch
9. Nap
10. Run Errands
11. Craft or freetime
12. Dinner

Does anyone else out there have a causal schedule for the day?

talking

I think Elsie is saying (on purpose) mama and dada.
It is so sweet.  And when she says dada, she whispers it.
She knows the way to her daddy's heart!
And she is "jumping" in her crib.
Not exactly catching any air, but having a lot of fun!

Took one for the team

I was putting the kids into the car yesterday and a bee was buzzing arounda, frantically flying between me and Jenna and the car door.  I quickly shooed it away and it stung me.  OUCH!  Bee stings still hurt, even as a mom.  I'm happy to take one for the team.

1 out of 3 is not good

Jenna has slept only one out of the past three days for nap time.  I am not ready to lose my excellent nap-girl!!!

Small update

1.  My coupon obsession has calmed down considerably.  I am okay now, I promise.  But I am enjoying this newfound exciting part of my week!

2.  Head over to Choose To Bloom to see the challenge for the weekend, and to see what we are planning for the months ahead!  Leave a comment, we like comments :)

3.  Parenting Elsie has been good.  She seems to know what "no" means and responds to it pretty well.  But it doesn't take her long to be back at the the same forbidden activity (ie chewing on things such as shoes, brushes, etc).  She will learn, slowly but surely.  Just as with my older daughter, consistency seems to be key.

4.  Parenting Jenna has been full of challenges.  Thankfully we have also experienced some exciting success.  Maybe I will blog more about that later :)

5.   I am back to teaching and helping with Sunday School (Sprouts) at church after a short summer break.  I am so excited to teach and love those little 3-5 year olds.  We have several new volunteers, and of course I am forever thankful for my dear friend Inga who does the scheduling, email reminders, and helps me with anything else I need.  She's the best!

6.  I rearranged Jenna's room the other day.  Moving her bed to the side of the room has freed up so much space.  I can't wait to have the girls in the same room so that we can have a guest/play room again.  But I think I will wait for a while still.

That's all.  Hope I didn't bore you too much :)  Have a good day everybody!

bonkers

Thanks to a good friend, who pointed me to the Money Saving Mom site, I am officially borderline obsessed with coupons. It is scary. Last night I woke up to help Jenna back into bed at 2:30am and couldn't fall back to sleep until nearly 5am because my mind was spinning with ways to be frugal, use coupons, shop smart, etc. The obsession will pass once I get it well figured out because it won't be as much of a challenge, but until then I am going crazy. Bonkers. Seriously.
